Dr Gautam Das is working as a Consultant in Medicine, Diabetes and Endocrinology at University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff in South Wales, United Kingdom. He graduated from the University of Calcutta, India in 1998 with multiple honours, gold medals and distinctions. He topped Calcutta University during First Professional MBBS and also secured second position in the University in the Third Professional MBBS exams. He then completed his MD in Internal Medicine in October 2004 from Aligarh Muslim University with distinction and his research topic was on “Insulin resistance and macro vascular disease in newly detected type 2 diabetes and their first-degree relatives”. He arrived in UK in 2004 and completed his MRCP in 2007 during his training in junior medical rotations. He obtained MRCP in Diabetes and Endocrinology in 2011 and competed his specialist training in Diabetes & Endocrinology and Internal Medicine and obtained dual CCT from Wales Deanery in 2013. He obtained his fellowship (FRCP) from the Royal College of Physicians, London in July 2017 and also obtained fellowship (FACE) from the American College of Endocrinology in May 2018 for his outstanding contribution in the field of Endocrinology. He is a member of multiple endocrine societies in UK and Europe.

Besides his work, he likes to go on long drives, enjoys football and cricket and has an active interest in politics and debates which he might consider as an alternative profession when he has more grey hairs and wisdom.

Education & Training

Dr Das has an avid interest in Type 1 diabetes, adolescent diabetes, transition care and insulin pumps. Moreover, his other interests include thyroid and parathyroid disease in relation to vitamin D and bone metabolism. He is a keen researcher and has published more than 50 articles and original studies in national and international peer reviewed journals. Dr Das has an avid interest in Type 1 diabetes, adolescent diabetes, transition care and insulin pumps. Moreover, his other interests include thyroid and parathyroid disease in relation to vitamin D and bone metabolism. He is a keen researcher and has published more than 50 articles and original studies in national and international peer reviewed journals. He is also a regular speaker in clinical meetings and presented several posters in international meetings and have won multiple prizes. He has also won accolades and prizes with innovation in diabetes care in Wales. He also has significant interest in teaching and training. He supervises postgraduate trainees in endocrinology and is also on the Wales Deanery’s teaching panel and a member of the specialist training committee. He is also involved in teaching MRCP candidates in his hospital. He is also a regular tutor for PG Diploma in Endocrinology and also serves as a supervisor for MSc in Diabetes and Endocrinology at South Wales University. He has co-authored a book relating to “Speciality certificate exams in Diabetes and Endocrinology” in the UK and also does peer review of original manuscripts for internationally acclaimed journals.
