General surgery is a surgical speciality that focuses on abdominal contents, including the oesophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, liver, pancreas, gallbladder, appendix and bile ducts, and often the thyroid gland.

General surgeons treat the abdomen, breast, head and neck, blood vessels, and digestive tract diseases. They also manage the care of patients who have been injured or who have deformities or other conditions that need surgery.
